Expert SEO Strategy
Designing your site to maximize traffic from the search engines is not a difficult task, but it does require you to think ahead and plan your SEO strategy carefully.
If you have not yet built your website and are still in the initial planning stages then you may have an easier time of it. If you already have an existing website,
then you may need to take the time to read up on the professional SEO strategies and make some changes to incorporate them into your website.
Internal Linking Structure
Internal linking structure, as referred to by SEO, commonly known as website navigation, is a fundamental requirement for your end user and search engine spiders.
Logical and intuitive navigation will assist your web visitor in finding their way around your website effortlessly; and help increase your response rates (be it
sales, phone calls, or simply readers). A well-constructed and coded linking structure will help search engine spiders navigate your site. This will ultimately
help search engine users locate your content.
Spiders can't see links that are accomplished by JavaScript so, as far as search engines are concerned, they don't exist. Don't use them if you want spiders to
follow your links. Google won't spider any URL that looks like it has a Session ID in it, so URLs with longish numbers in them must be avoided. These are usually
dynamic URLs. It is important to structure the internal links so that targeted search terms are reinforced. E.g. organize the links so that a topic's sub-topic pages
link to the topic page with the right link text and vice-versa.
Once you have your target keywords identified and your navigation set up to point enough links the correct anchor text at the pages targeting those words, then it
is time to focus on the title tag, Meta tags and body copy. Make sure they all support the anchor text in the links pointing to the given page. Congruency between
inbound link anchor text, title tag, Meta tags (to a MUCH lesser degree) body copy (including Hx tags) is the winning formula.
Using this strategy SEO FLOAT will help your site to get top placement (page 1 in all 3 major Search Engines) on moderately competitive terms without a single
external back link pointing to most of your pages (You will still need some good external back links to power your site as a whole, but not to most of the pages
you'll get ranked). Conversely, with a poorly designed navigation structure, you may need to get 2, 3 or 4 times the number of back links to have the same effect.
As with most things of value in life, a little planning up front pays huge dividends down the road.
